The five best wedding day hair and makeup tips

With wedding season approaching, we asked a makeup artist to share her most basic tips for perfecting your beauty look as you walk down the aisle.

1. Make your skin faux glow
Get any waxing, facials and tans at least 48 hours beforehand. This prevents any allergic reaction you may have. It’s also best to go for a spray tan a couple of months before hand to see how dark you want to go.

If you have any tan lines, Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is truly amazing. It can be used anywhere on the body and stays put (which is essential with a white dress). Just make sure to let it dry well.

2. Avoid looking like a lobster
If you’re having a destination or summer wedding, sunblock is a must. Redness can start to appear within minutes of being outside and don’t forget to add some on your ears, neck and the tops of your feet. The best time to apply is 20 minutes before you go out so it has time to be absorbed (and put it on away from your dress to avoid any stains).

OmbrelleSport
Ombrelle, Sport Clear Continuous Spray, $21, Well.

3. Tear-proof your whole face
When tears (and sweat) are involved, waterproof mascara and eyeliner are a must. I love Covergirl mascara because it lengthens, adds volume and stays on until you wash it off.

I also recommend M.A.C. Fluidline in Blacktrack. You can layer it on depending on how soft, or dark, of a look you want. You can also smudge it with a Q-Tip for a smoky eye.

LashBlastMascara
Covergirl, LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara, $11, Well. Fluidline liquid liner, US$16, M.A.C. Cosmetics.

4. Try DIY eyes
For an easy eye shadow look, I love the quad palettes by Clinique. The colours are gorgeous and come in various shades to suit every woman’s skin tone. Each quad comes with application instructions if you don’t want to hire a makeup artist.  CliniqueEyeQuadClinique, All About Shadow Quad (shown in Teddy Bear), $35, Sephora

5. Don’t forget about your hair
To hold your hairstyle in place all day long (and trust us, it’s a long one), nothing works better than Climate Control Hairspray. It holds style and adds adds shine but can be brushed through if need be. Keep a bottle on hand even after your hair and makeup person has left for the day. d17eaaa34b82aa44e0a415112785Climate Control Finishing Spray, $6, Tresemmé.

Dysport Discovery– The Latest Treatment for Frown Lines

DSC_5656_sm

DSC_5660_sm

I recently attended an event hosted by Strategic Objectives to discover the latest non-surgical way to look your best. Dysport officially launched in Canada on April 1st, 2014, although it has been in approved in over 23 countries for the last 15 years.

What is Dysport?
Dysport is a prescription drug administered by injection used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in adults under the age of 65.

How does it work?
Dysport works in just 1 treatment by blocking the signal to the nerve, to the muscles, which results in a reduction of muscle activity temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines.

The results last for approximately 4 months and the treatment takes just 10 to 20 minutes. There is no down time and you can go back to work.

What are the ingredients?
The medicinal ingredient is Botulinum toxin type A. Non-medicinal ingredients are human serum albumin and lactose monohydrate.

What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?
With Dysport results are very quick – 24 hours with a median time of 3 days. The results are also softer.

Cost
Varies per unit used. I got 55 cc units of Dysport and 0.75 cc units of restylene for my min-lip filler. Please contact for more information at 416-907-5810 or www.corygoldbergMD.com. The address of his office is 190 Sherway Drive, Suite 401, Etobicoke, Ontario M9C 5N2

He offers many other services as well.

It was a pleasure to attend the seminar and meet with Dr. Cory Goldberg who is based in Etobicoke and Dr. Doris Day who is based in New York. I was very intrigued and decided that I would love to attend a consultation  I booked an appointment with Dr. Cory Goldberg at 190 Sherway Drive in Etobicoke as I am in Toronto for April 10th, 2014. I am almost 35 and started noticing crow’s feet especially.

Upon arriving I experienced nothing but a very friendly staff that made me feel so comfortable.  Dr. Cory S. Goldberg came out to greet me personally. We discussed my lifestyle, what I was looking for and the process began. It was a very enjoyable experience.

We took various photos of animated and straight faces for before photos. I decided that a mini-lip rejuvenation would be a perfect addition to Dysport. A nurse by the name of Heather was so friendly and prepared everything quickly while explaining the process.

Dr. Goldberg had come in and injected the Dysport, while Nurse Heather prepared the Restylane for my lips.

The whole process took just a few minutes with no pain for me at all. Upon leaving, I was instructed to wrinkle my forehead for half an hour and not lie down, exercise or jump for four hours. I am so excited and will keep you posted with After Photos.

I would highly recommend the services of Dr. Goldberg and his staff. Dr. Cory S. Goldberg is a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.

Stay tuned for more After Photos!

Blooming Beauty Buzz: Hottest Spring Makeup Trends

After our incredibly long winter, spring is just around the corner. The trends for spring 2014 are much bolder than in the previous years sporting the bright shades of green, blue and violet.

  • Orange is the new “it” shade for lips.
  • Skin is dewy and fresh.
  • Low ponytails, wisps and braids are your go-to hair trends this season.

Here are my favourite beauty tips. Enjoy!

How to get the “dewy skin” look:

Dermalogica makes an amazing Cover Tint. Natural light-diffusing agents combined with Iron Oxides blur lines, brighten and moisturize skin, providing an even skin tone, while SPF 20 helps protect skin from sun damage. Comes in three shades that truly compliment almost any complexion. I always like to add a little dab to collar bones and where skin is exposed for a uniform look.

Tip:
Apply cover tint first and add a little concealer to blemishes and under eyes. This prevents from rubbing away the concealer when applying a foundation. Use fingers for both applications, as the warmth promotes easy blending. When applying concealer, gently cover the imperfection and blend away the edges.

I love the concealer by Cover FX. The colours are vast for every ethnicity. The coverage is exceptional, as well as moisturizing, and lasts for hours.

The application of a bright eye shadow or eye liner is key to having beautiful, eyes that dazzle.

A great way to get the look is to use a bright blue, green or violet shade as an accent. Apply just a thin trace of eyeliner along the eyelid or in the inner corners of the eyes. Mature women should avoid anything with sparkle. For an evening look, apply the shadow to the entire eyelid – looks gorgeous. To get the perfect look, blend upwards, making sure that eye shadow application is symmetrical and does not go above your eyelid. Darker variations of green, blue and violet look best.

Tip:
Wet an eyeliner brush and use eye shadow as eyeliner if you have none on hand.

Remember: you never want to have extremely dramatic eyes and lips together. Choose to focus on either eyes or lips, while keeping the other muted.

I love eye shadow quads by Clinique. With fun names like Galaxy for blues, On Safari for greens and Going Steady for purples, your eyes have never looked so gorgeous!

I also love that the palette comes with instructions for application.

If you prefer a more natural look, the Teddybear quad is simply stunning and looks great with a more orange or even natural toned lip.

Tip:
Apply a little concealer to eyelids to keep eye shadow on for hours.

For lips, orange is here to stay for spring! I love the new moisturizing jumbo lipsticks by Elizabeth Arden that come in two shades – coral reef and sunrise. Both are beautiful shades. The lipstick is a jumbo pencil that is incredibly moisturizing and comes with a sharpener.

For your mane, wisps and no fuss hair is in. I personally love the messy wavy, tousled look. For optimum results, spray dry hair with a protecting spray such as the Thermal Creations Heat Protecting Spray. It not only protects the hair from heat, but also reduces frizz, keeps the style and smells great. I love the little lock on the bottle as well to prevent skills.

Begin by parting hair to your liking. For large no-fuss waves, I love the Revlon Ceramic Jumbo Waver. It takes only a few minutes as you can take big strands of hair. Simply hold down and release. Finger tousle. You can either wear hair down or in a low ponytail. Secure with a clear elastic. For added pizzaz, hide the elastic with a thin strand of your hair by wrapping it around and securing with a matching bobby pin underneath. Finish with a spray. I love the Climate Control Hairspray by Tresemme. It provides great hold regardless of the weather, yet you can still brush through it.

All the best and Happy Spring!

Put a Lil’ Spring In Your Step – Beauty tips

Attention ladies, it’s spring already! Spring doesn’t only mean a lovely aroma, flowers and sunny days; it also means that there are new beauty trends coming up!

Natalia Zurawska has some beauty tips for you (from head to toe) which will help you through the spring time!
Enjoy!

Tip 1: Lips
Orange lips are really big for spring and look especially amazing on South Asian Skin tones.

Elizabeth Arden has come out with a Beautiful Jumbo Colour Gloss Stick, only available for a limited time. This has got to be one of my favorite makeup goodies yet and I hope it does end up staying in their line. The gloss stick is extra moisturizing providing vibrant colour and shine. It comes with a sharpener as well. Just perfection for the perfect pout!

Best Tips:

  • To keep lipstick on extra long, line your entire lip with the same colour of lip liner.
  • To prevent lipstick from bleeding, apply powder around the lip line to set.
  • Make sure to keep eye makeup more muted if lips are going to be vibrant.

Tip 2: Eyes
Blue, green and purple eye shadows and eyeliner are back! Do not be afraid, a lot has changed since the 80’s. For an added pop of colour, simply line your eyes, or apply only to the inner corners with a more neutral colour along the lid. Really bright eye shadow colours should be used as an accent for a day look. Darker shades of blue, green and purple may be applied to the entire lid like a smokey eye for a night on the town.

I love the eye shadow quad sets by Clinique. The colours are gorgeous, already matched and stay on for hours. I especially love the On Safari (green tones), Galaxy (blue tones) and Going Steady (purple tones)

Best Tips:

  • Make sure not to extend eye shadow into the brow bone.
  • Keep lips neutral if you are going for a dramatic eye look.
  • Apply concealer to eyelids before eye shadow application for lasting results.

The Tightline cake Eye Liner by Laura Mercier is a truly spectacular. You can activate it with water or with the Tightline Activator to keep it waterproof. Create a paste using the Laura Mercier flat brush and apply by wiggling in between lashes and inner eye line. With gorgeous shades such as Bleu Marine, Plum Riche and Forest Green, there is a colour for everyone. It also comes in more classic tones such as Charcoal Grey, Mahogany Brown, GunMetal Smoke and Black Ebony.

Tip 3: Body
I love the new cream by Soap and Glory. With major moisturizing ingredients such as shea, coconut bar, lime and almond oils, it nourishes post-winter skin leaving it smelling oh so fresh and rejuvenating. Kiwi juice water is also added. Yum!

Sugar Crush Body Butter

Tip 4: Hair
Dry shampoo is always great to keep on hand or in your purse. I love the travel size one by TRESemmé. TRESemmé volumizing dry shampoo has such a great citrus scent to pep you up all while freshening up your hair, adding volume and eliminating oil. It also helps keep hair colour with less washing. Simply spray on and brush through before styling hair.
